LEGO AVATAR - London BFI IMAX

Briefing

The project is a printing poster (104cm x 29,5cm) designed to fit a LEGO MOC based on London BFI IMAX. It's a round cinema building in the middle of a roundabout. And inside the glass walls it's covered with a HUGE film poster. The Poster subject my partner chose was James Cameron's Avatar(2011).

As the building is round, the left end will touch the right end. It's quite a challenging shape, so my partner made me a Photoshop file with some temporary images that I could use for framing such as there are some parts where the building blocks the view.

*So it was really important not to frame important things like eyes or logo's under there.

* Below is visible the Draft my partner did to help me designing the poster and the LEGO building project.
#1 TASK - Pandora's Environment

The initial challenge was to recreate the environment of the planet Pandora. I decided to go beyond the Draft and incorporate more visual elements into the design to bring more realism and dimension to the poster.

*I used official LEGO promotional images of their products to compose the scene, as well as official assets from the movie sets to compose Pandora's flora.
*Here we have the final Background Design*
#2 TASK - Setting the Characters

My partner sent me the pictures of his LEGO minifigures so that I could incorporate them into the final project so that they would complement the whole scene.

*I needed to add layers of light and shadow to add dimension and correct the lighting of the characters through the created scene.

*Here we have the main characters inserted in the scene*
#3 TASK - LOGO CONSISTENCY

Mix the first Avatar Logo (2011) with the new one from the movie Avatar The way of Water (2022) as it was necessary to have James Cameron signature mentioned in the briefing.

*As the first logo was very thin, it ended up getting lost in the very elaborate cover of the poster.

Overview
After adding all the elements, I exported the PDF file with a CMYK color profile and forwarded it to my partner for approval and then to Print.
